POLICE in Chambishi have arrested a 25-year-old man who is alleged to be a supplier of guns to criminals on the Copperbelt.
And a 30-year-old man has been shot and wounded by Sino Mine Company security guards when he attempted to steal a company tent.
Copperbelt police commanding officer Martin Malama said the 25-year-old was caught red-handed in Zambia township in Chambishi selling an AK47 Rifle with three rounds of ammunition.
Dr Malama said the suspect was going round the township shouting on top of his voice that he was selling the weapon.
He said the suspect was arrested after a tip-off from members of the public.
Dr Malama said some people in the township were stunned that a dangerous weapon can be sold in that manner.
“We have arrested a 25-year-old man who has been supplying guns to criminals on the Copperbelt. He was caught selling the gun with three rounds of ammunition in Zambia township in Chambishi.
This man was actually selling the gun on the black market, shouting like the way the people who sell vegetables do.
“Further investigations led us to his father in Mufumbwe where we also confiscated an AK47 rifle with three rounds of ammunition from the old man.
Investigations are continuing,” he said.
Dr Malama said that Sino Mine Company security guards shot and wounded a 30-year-old man after he was allegedly caught stealing a tent.
He said the suspect, who was shot in the leg, is admitted to Chambishi Government clinic and that he will appear in court soon.
“What is interesting about this case is that the victim appeared in court on 18th September on theft charges and he was given a suspended sentence. He will be in court once he is discharged from the clinic,” Dr Malama said.
And Dr Malama said that police in Kitwe are holding a 28-year-old man who allegedly defiled his five-year-old-daughter.
“This man was given special instructions by his wife to prepare a meal for the girl while she went out but to her surprise, instead of preparing a meal for the girl at 12: 00 hours, he decided to defile his own biological child,” Dr Malama said.
