Ethiopian Scribe Impressed With Zambia's Successes in Economic Development

By ALEX NJOVU

AN ETHIOPIAN veteran journalist has said he is impressed with the economic development Zambia has recorded lately.
Mr Amanyihun Redda attributed the growth in Zambia’s economy to Government’s prudent economic policies.
He said this in a statement emailed from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on January 18.
Mr Redda advised Zambians to support President Banda’s administration because it has proved that it can take the nation forward.
”Personally, I have been following the economic developments taking place in Zambia and other countries in the southern African region, and I think Zambia has done exceptionally well so far. I think this view is shared by donors and other international organisations,” Mr Redda said.
He said more Zambians are expected to be self-reliant, going by the developments taking place in various parts of the country.
Mr Redda said Zambia has managed to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) because of Government’s commitment to creating a favourable environment for local and foreign investors.
”Zambia is doing well in terms of economic development. I have read a lot about Zambia and how its leaders have shown commitment to developing the country. New mining companies are opening up in various parts of the country. This is very good in terms of development in Africa,” he said.
Mr Redda called on African leaders to work towards changing the face of Africa by implementing projects that are beneficial to the people.
“The focus of our leaders should be developing this beautiful continent that God gave us, and ensure that peace prevails at all times. We want Africans to share what they have as brothers and sisters,” he said.
He said it is unfortunate that Africa has lagged behind in development and called for concerted efforts to develop the continent.
The American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has ranked Zambia’s economic performance at number four in Africa in 2010 after Congo Brazzaville, Mozambique and Ethiopia.
