By ALEX NJOVU

THE Health Workers Union of Zambia (HWUZ) has commended Government for setting aside K134 billion to settle outstanding allowances for health workers this year.
And HWUZ general secretary Lewis Mukosha has commended President Banda for his commitment to the construction and upgrading of health facilities countrywide.
“We would like to commend Government for its commitment to addressing various challenges facing health workers in Zambia. Our government has set aside about K134 billion for personal emoluments for our members.
We are happy that Government is doing everything possible to motivate our members,” he said.
Mr Mukosha was speaking in an interview in Lusaka on February yesterday.
He assured the health workers that Government will soon start releasing the money to pay them.
Mr Mukosha said the money will help to improve the welfare of the health workers in the country.
He said he is happy Government has continued working with various stakeholders to address the challenges health workers are facing.
Mr Mukosha said HWUZ will continue working with Government to foster development in the communities.
“Recently, the Government released K12 billion for the payment of various allowances for our members. Government has been consistent in addressing some of our problems, and we hope every month it will be releasing the funds,” he said.
Mr Mukosha said he is also happy that President Banda is committed to building and upgrading health facilities in all parts of the country.
“We are happy that Mr Banda has continued commissioning hospitals and clinics in various parts of the country. It is encouraging that district hospitals are under construction in many areas. This is important because Government is simply taking medical facilities closer to the people,” he said.
Mr Mukosha urged the health workers to continue supporting Government in its quest to develop the health sector.
