Support Govt in attracting foreign investment - pastor

By ALEX NJOVU
A CLERGYMAN in Kitwe has urged Zambians to work with Government in attracting foreign direct investment and in employment creation.
Dominion Christian Church pastor Enoch Chalenga said in an interview in Kitwe that Zambians, especially youths, should safeguard the investment which is coming into the country.
Pastor Chalenga, who is also Copperstone University head of sociological and anthropological studies, is also happy that Chinese investment has continued to increase in various sectors of the economy.
“I would like to call upon fellow Zambians, young and old, to support every effort which is being made by both the government and its partners in attracting foreign direct investment. This is helping to reduce the high unemployment and poverty levels in the country,” Pastor Chalenga said.
He said Chinese investment in Zambia is historical and that the country has continued to benefit from capital projects being implemented by Chinese investors in the country.
“I am personally proud when I look back where our relationship with China started, some young people may not understand it because it was started during the great days of our First Republican President Dr Kenneth Kaunda.
“We have continued to witness massive Chinese investment in Zambia. Chinese companies are employing a lot of our people and doing other things for our communities,” Pastor Chalenga said.
The clergyman said the Church in Zambia will continue supporting policies aimed at cementing relations between Government and foreign investors.
He said unemployment is a global issue which needs the attention of various stakeholders to address.
Pastor Chalenga also said the language barrier existing between Zambians and some Chinese nationals is blocking the Church from taking the Word of God to Chinese investors.
“We want to take the Word of God to our brothers and sisters, the Chinese who are resident in Zambia, but we cannot because of language barrier. It is important that the Word of God is preached to every human race, including the Chinese.
“We are therefore asking Government to put in place a policy which will enable the Chinese community to teach the local people their language and they should also learn our languages,” he said.
Pastor Chalenga said the current language barrier between some Zambians and Chinese investors needs to be broken as it is hindering human development.
