Ms Mithi, however, warned civil servants against working with those bent on discrediting government. She said in an interview in Mufulira yesterday that she is impressed with efforts that civil servants are making to develop Mufulira. “I have seen a lot of commitment and willingness on the part of civil servants in the district to work with government to foster development. Each time you call for a meeting, they are always on time and making valuable contributions,” Ms Mithi said. She said government needs a civil service which is focused on poverty reduction and national development. She said it is important for Zambians to continue supporting government so that it can successfully implement its policies and programmes. “We need unity from all stakeholders in the district, we cannot afford to be a divided house. We need focused government workers who are going to play a key role in the implementation of various developmental projects,” Ms Mithi said. She, however, warned some disgruntled civil servants in the district against frustrating government’s efforts to develop the mining town. “In as much as I am commending them now, I will not allow any government worker to frustrate government in its efforts to improve the welfare of Zambians. All those who will be found working with individuals bent on destroying what we are doing as a government will be punished,” Ms Mithi said. She said government is in a hurry to develop the country and is happy that development projects in the area are progressing well. “Mufulira has changed a lot in the last one year that the Patriotic Front has been in power. People are happy with what the government is doing and they are solidly behind the leadership of President Sata,” Ms Mithi said.
