Wusakile MP demands improved water supply

By ALEX NJOVU
WUSAKILE member of Parliament Richard Musukwa has bemoaned the erratic water supply in his constituency.
Mr Musukwa, who is also Mines, Energy and Water Development deputy minister, said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that there is need for Nkana Water and Sewerage Company (NWSC) to increase its capacity to supply adequate water to the increasing population.
“Water and sanitation in Wusakile is a matter of great concern. Our residents cannot rest until every house has water for 24 hours. Nkana Water and Sewerage Company must enhance its water supply capacity to match the growing population which has increased. Mopani Copper Mines (MCM) must help our people,” Mr Musukwa said.
He said the residents of Wusakile are having difficulties in accessing quality water and sanitation services and are sometimes forced to walk long distances to fetch water.
He also called on the Road Development Agency (RDA) to improve on the road network in the area.
“The township roads in Wusakile constituency are in bad state and they need to be attended to,” he said.
And Kwacha member of Parliament Boniface Mutale also expressed concern with the state of water and sanitation facilities in his constituency.
Mr Mutale also warned Kitwe City Council (KCC) officials against allocating land illegally.
“We have water problems and the bad road network must be addressed. The RDA should ensure that we have a proper road network in these areas,” Mr Mutale said.
