Mine investors urged to create sustainable jobs

KALULUSHI member of Parliament Rayford Mbulu has urged mine investors in the district to work towards reducing poverty by creating sustainable and decent jobs for the local people.
Mr Mbulu, who is also Deputy Minister of Labour, said investors should give priority to Kalulushi residents when employing people.
He said there is need for the local people to benefit from the natural resources in the district.
Mr Mbulu was speaking in Kalulushi on Sunday during a tea party organised by the Patriotic Front (PF) youth wing at Chibote Club.
“We are appealing to investors to continue working with government and other stakeholders in reducing poverty by ensuring that they create decent jobs for the people. Our people in Kalulushi should be the first ones to benefit from job opportunities created by the mines,” Mr Mbulu said.
He said over 5,000 job opportunities will be created once the Mwambeshi mine starts its operations soon.
Mr Mbulu told the youth that government is concerned about their welfare and urged them to form clubs to enable them access funds from government for income- generating projects.
He also advised youths against being used as tools of destruction by some people.
Mr Mbulu urged youths to continue supporting government policies and assured them that it is committed to creating jobs for them.
And Kalulushi district commissioner Joyce Nsamba urged youths to be innovative and ensure that they participate in the economic development of the country.
“We are appealing to youths to be innovative and ensure that they come up with income -generating projects. We have about K1 billion on the Copperbelt, all they need to do is to form clubs, register them and they will be able to access the funds,” she said.
Ms Nsamba said all development projects in the district are on course.
And Kalulushi PF district youth chairman Jones Fulayi said the funds raised from the tea party will be used on various income generating projects.
Mr Fulayi said one of the main challenges facing the youth is unemployment.
