Kalulushi mayor commends Chinese mining firms

From ALEX NJOVU in Kitwe
KALULUSHI mayor Howard Simpemba has commended Chinese mining companies operating in the area for their contribution to the development of the district.
Mr Simpemba said in an interview in Kitwe yesterday that it is gratifying that Chinese companies operating in Kalulushi have continued to implement programmes that are helping to eradicate poverty in local communities.
He commended Non-Ferrous Corporation Africa Chambishi Mine and Chambishi Copper Smelter for working with government in improving local people’s living standards.
“Many bridges which connect some settlements in Kalulushi have been fixed by Chinese companies. These bridges are very important as they help farmers to transport their produce to the market,” Mr Simpemba said.
He also said the mining companies have invested huge sums of money in the rehabilitation and construction of health centres in Kalulushi.
“Even the education sector has continued to benefit from Chinese companies operating in Kalulushi. Many people are happy with what is happening and we want to urge them to continue on this path. We want them to continue implementing development projects which are aimed at uplifting the living standards of our people,” Mr Simpemba said.
He assured Kalulushi residents that the Patriotic Front government is committed to expediting development in the district.
He said government, with its co-operating partners, is working hard to develop Kalulushi.
“Many of our people are being employed by Chinese mining companies in Kalulushi, and in the process reducing poverty levels,” he said.
Mr Simpemba urged Kalulushi residents to continue supporting government in its efforts to develop the district.
He also called on the residents to desist from vandalising infrastructure.
