Teachers union hails good education policies

From ALEX NJOVU in Kitwe
THE Professional Teachers Union of Zambia (PTUZ) has commended the Patriotic Front (PF) government for implementing policies that are improving the quality of education in the country.
PTUZ Kitwe district chairman Aaron Chansa said in an interview in Kitwe on Wednesday that it is important that government is working with various stakeholders to improve education standards in the country.
“We are very happy to note that the Patriotic Front government has remained focused and determined with its vision to ensuring that every Zambian child has access to better education. We can only encourage them to continue on the same path as it is important for our children to get educated so that they become responsible citizens in future,” Mr Chansa said.
He said the recent signing of a mutual accountability framework between government and 10 cooperating partners will help to develop the education sector.
Mr Chansa said it is good that donors have continued showing confidence in the manner government is running the affairs of the country.
He said the crusade against corruption which government has embarked on is bearing fruit and called on all Zambians to support it.
Mr Chansa also said PTUZ is happy that government is working hard to develop all parts of the country and urged donors to continue providing support.
On Tuesday, 10 cooperating partners signed a mutual accountability framework with government involving US$211.25 million to support education.
The cooperating partners which signed an agreement with government were Britain, Japan, Ireland, The Netherlands, Denmark, UNICEF, USAID, European Union and the International Labour Organisation.
The agreement will facilitate support to the Third National Implementation Framework in the education sector under the Sixth National Development Plan.
The framework provides an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between government and cooperating partners.
