Nkana Water scouts for K16.9 billion

From ALEX NJOVU in Kitwe
Nkana Water and Sewerage Company (NWSC) needs K16.9 billion for the improvement of sanitation facilities in Old Kwacha.
NWSC public relations manager Damaseke Chibale said in an interview in Kitwe yesterday that the water utility needs K16.9 billion to successfully rehabilitate sanitation facilities in Old Kwacha.
“We are looking for K16.9 billion to help us work on the sanitation facilities in Old Kwacha. Our people are currently using pit latrines but we are determined to change that and ensure that we provide them with proper sanitation facilities,” Mr Chibale said.
He said NWSC is working with its partners to improve service delivery.
He also said NWSC is counting on government and donors to raise funds for the rehabilitation of sanitation facilities in Old Kwacha.
Mr Chibale urged Old Kwacha residents to be patient and support NWSC in its quest to secure funds for the project.
He said government and its partners have been consistent in funding NWSC capital projects aimed at improving water supply and sanitation.
“We are appealing to our brothers and sisters in Old Kwacha to be patient because we are determined to ensuring that we attend to their problems. We are seriously looking for the money which is required to improve the water situation,” Mr Chibale said.
He also urged Old Kwacha residents to desist from vandalising water infrastructure because it is one of the major challenges facing the water utility firm.
Mr Chibale urged Zambians to work with government to develop the water sector.
“Our people must desist from damaging water infrastructure.
Government and its partners are spending a lot of money on building water infrastructure which is aimed at improving service delivery,” Mr Chibale said.
