President Banda commends Katumbi

By ALEX NJOVU

PRESIDENT Banda yesterday lauded Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Katanga Province governor Moses Katumbi for exposing Zambian players to international football.
“I would like to commend you, my son and brother, Democratic Republic of Congo Katanga Province governor Moses Katumbi for exposing our Zambian players to international club football,” Banda said.
Katumbi owns TP Mazembe.
The President was speaking yesterday when he commissioned the US$ 25 million Kasumbalesa border post in Chililabombwe.
Banda said he is happy that defender HichaniHimoonde and striker Given Singuluma -the players he nurtured at Chiparamba Youth Academy - are featuring for TP Mazembe.
Last year, TP Mazembe became the first African side to reach the Club World Cup final but lost 3-0 to Italian side Inter Milan. On the way to the final, TP Mazembe beat Brazilian side Internacional 2-0.
“I brought Singuluma to Chiparamba Youth Academy, which I own, when he was 11 years old and I hope you will find Himoonde, popularly known as HH, useful. TP Mazembe has other players such as Rainford Kalaba, Emmanuel Mbola, Sebastian Mwansa, who are the darlings of Zambian fans. We are happy with what you are doing your Excellency in exposing our Zambian players to international club football,” he said.
Other Zambian players featuring for the three-time African club Champions are StoppilaSunzu and Kalililo Kakonje.
Banda expressed confidence that with the opening of Kasumbalesa border post ,several Zambians will be travelling to the DRC to watch football.
“With this modern facility that we have put up at Kasumbalesa border post, our people will be able to go to watch football in the DRC and come back. We know that Zambians and their brothers and sisters in the DRC love football very much. I would like to thank you (Katumbi) for looking after our Zambians who are featuring for TP Mazembe, which is a very successful club. We are one people who have continued to live in peace,” Banda said.
