Journalists union elects new chapel leaders


 
THE Zambia Union of Journalists (ZUJ) last Friday elected new leaders in all its chapels.
ZUJ general-secretary Chapadongo Lungu said in an interview in Lusaka on Monday that the new office-bearers were elected for a two-year term, which will run from October, 2009 to September, 2011.
Mr Lungu said Times of Zambia Lusaka chapel president Bob Sianjalika retained his position unopposed and will be deputised by Delphine Zulu, who polled 33 votes against Jason Mwale’s two votes.
The new chapel secretary is Nebert Mulenga, who had 25 votes against Richard Mulonga’s nine. Former secretary Benjamin Mowa did not seek re-election.
James Muyanwa clinched the position of treasurer, getting 19 votes against Patrick Banda’s 10 and Jane Munthali’s six votes.
Committee members are Henry Kuntashula and Gilbert Kaimana.
At the Ndola Times of Zambia chapel, Stembridge Musefwe replaced Jonathan Bwalya, who opted not to stand while Collins Banda is the new vice-president.
Other members on the committee are Jacob Banda (secretary), Hilda Lumba (vice-secretary), Moses Kabaila (treasurer) and Christopher Kaleng’a (vice treasurer).
Committee members are James Shumba, Elias Chipepo and Geoffrey Matakala.
Shamaoma Musonda retained his position as president at the Kitwe Times of Zambia chapel, and will be deputised by Bennet Simfukwe, while Felix Malunga is the secretary.
At the Zambia Daily Mail Ndola office, Kangwa Mulenga defeated the incumbent, Aggrey Banda, to become the new president. Other members on the committee are Justine Mukota (vice president), Jerry Munthali (secretary) and John Nkhata (treasurer).
Mukula Mukula fended off opposition from Alex Njovu, whom he beat to retain his position as Kitwe chapel president while Gladys Munthali beat Hone Liwanga to become vice president.
Evans Chitambala retained the position of secretary and the treasurer is Sheema Wapamesa.
At Lusaka chapel, Panic Chilufya kept her position as president while former secretary Esther Witi became the new vice president.
Monica Mayuni is the new secretary and her deputy will be Felix Nkinke.
Phillip Katai polled 27 votes against Victor Mwitwa’s 16 to become treasurer and will be deputised by Manako Simbelele.
