The incident happened on the President Avenue around 17:30 hours.
The driver, who only identified himself as Yoramu admitted, to the Police that he had been drinking beer and that he was a resident of Kamuchanga township in Mufulira.
The driver, in his drunken state, bragged that he was driving at over 100 kilometres.
“I am coming from a wedding party in Ndola. And yes, I am drunk and I am not refusing.
You can go ahead and get the pictures of myself and the car but please stop beating me because you will just kill me," he said as he staggered.
The car swerved several times on the two lanes on President Avenue and missed several other vehicles in the opposite direction before it plunged into the Kitwe stream.
Kitwe district MMD secretary, George Lungu and Riverside Pentecost Assembles of God Church pastor, Paul Mwale, were lucky with their cars, which were nearly hit into by the speeding driver.
Other motorists, especially female drivers parked their vehicles to stay clear of the speeding motorist.
Reality only dawned on the driver when he plunged into the stream
The instant justice mob quickly descended on him.
A Zambia Daily Mail crew that rushed to the scene after the car plunged into the stream found the mob applying instant justice on the visibly drunken driver.
The hapless driver was only rescued by a lone police officer.
The police officer had a tough time with the mob before he and other traffic police officers who joined him later rushed the driver to Kitwe Central Hospital.
